English Reading Level to Elevate Your English: Advanced

Do you wake up in the morning desiring a soothing and healthy tea? Well I absolutely love this one. It has a tasty blend of pineapple, turmeric, ginger and cinnamon and the health benefits are immense.

Benefits of Pineapple

Pineapple is rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants, magnesium and bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down protein. Did you know that pineapple even contains a little protein?

Benefits of  Turmeric

Not only is turmeric a very powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory,  it may also contain anti-cancer effects! In addition, it may reduce heart disease. According to everydayhealth.com,

In one study, researchers compared the effects of an eight-week aerobic exercise program and a curcumin supplement in improving endothelial function in postmenopausal women. Both the exercise and the curcumin group saw equal improvements in endothelial function, whereas the control group saw no changes.

Another study found that curcumin was equally effective at improving endothelial function in people with type 2 diabetes (heart disease is a common comorbidity of type 2) as the drug Lipitor (atorvastatin), a medication commonly prescribed to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. (8,9,10)

Still, more research is needed to determine if curcumin is a safe and effective long-term treatment strategy for people with heart disease.

Why are endothelial cells so important?

Endothelial cells form a single cell layer that lines all blood vessels and regulates exchanges between the bloodstream and the surrounding tissues. Signals from endothelial cells organize the growth and development of connective tissue cells that form the surrounding layers of the blood-vessel wall.

Turmeric may very well help treat heart disase, cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, depression, and much more.

Benefits of  Ginger

Ginger has been known and used for centuries due to its medicinal properties due to the gingerol it contains. Gingerol is the main bioactive ingredient in ginger.

Here are some fun fast facts about gingerol, according to wilkipedia.com.

  • The anti-carcinogenic activity of [6]-gingerol and [6]-paradol was analysed in a study observing the cellular mechanisms associated with mouse skin cancer which targeted the activator proteins associated with tumor initiation. Gingerol compounds inhibited the transformation of normal cells into cancer cells by blocking AP-1 proteins and when cancer did develop paradol encouraged apoptosis due to its cytotoxic activity.[15][12]
  • [6]-Gingerol exhibits cell cycle arrest capabilities, apoptotic action and enzyme-coupled cell signaling receptor degradation in cancer cells. Gingerol has been observed to stop proliferation through inhibiting the translation of Cyclin proteins necessary for replication during G1 and G2 phase of cell division.[23]
  •  [6]-Gingerol also inhibits the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 proteins on the surface of mitochondria, which in turn increases the capabilities for the pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 proteins to initiate cell death. Cancer cells exhibit high amounts of growth hormone activator proteins that are expressed through enzyme-coupled signaling pathways. By halting the phosphorylation of PI-3-Kinase the Akt protein cannot bind with its PH domain, effectively deactivating the downstream signal. Successively keeping Bad proteins bound to anti-apoptotic proteins which keeps them from promoting cell growth, consequently, a double negative cellular signaling pathway to promote apoptosis.

  • [6]-gingerol inhibited the cancer cells from invading and increasing in size.[14]
  • Cisplatin is a chemotherapy drug that if used in high dosages causes renal failure which is considered a limiting factor for this life saving drug. By using [6]-gingerol it prevented the occurrence of renal failure in rats.[24] [6]-gingerol improved glutathione production in dose-dependent results which suggested that the higher a dosage the more of an effect [6]-gingerol had.[24]
  • Gingerol compounds are thought to help in diabetic patients because of increases in glutathione, a cellular toxin regulatory factor.[10] Anti-hyperglycaemic effects were studied in diabetic and severely obese mice. Gingerol compounds increased glucose uptake in cells without the need of a synthetic insulin activator, while also decreasing fasting glucose and increasing glucose tolerance.[9]
  • Cardio-arrhythmia is a common side effect of diabetic patients and the anti-inflammatory effects of gingerol suppressed the risks by lowering blood glucose levels in-vivo.[11]
  • The anti-oxidant properties of [6]-gingerol has been considered as a defense against Alzheimer’s.

Benefits of  Cinnamon

Certainly a ton of health benefits there! Like ginger and tumeric, cinnamon also contains antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects. Cinnamon also contains anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properies. Reducing blood pressure, lowering blood sugar, relieving digestive discomfort are some of the other well-founded benefits of cinnamon. Although pineapple, turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon are well known for helping a lot of people with diverse medical conditions, it is advised to always consult a physician for medical advice regarding your personal health.

**Piperine found in black papper is known to increase the rate of turmeric absorption by 2000%. So I add a little grounded pepper to each cup of tea when I drink it:-) ***
