Families would also go to church and then enjoy a special dinner together. The first Mother’s Day was celebrated in the United States in 1908. Anna Jarvis created the holiday and wanted it to be a day for families to come together and express their love and appreciation for their mothers. Jarvis’ idea caught on, and Mother’s Day quickly became a national holiday. Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world. In many countries, it is a day to give mothers and grandmothers gifts and flowers and spend time with family and friends.

In the United States, Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday in May. In 2023, Mother’s Day will be celebrated on May 10th. However, the date varies per country.
